In this compelling talk, artist and photographer Nolan Streitberger delves into the tragic history of the forced removal of Southern Oregon tribes, exploring the events that led to this pivotal moment in Oregon’s history. He shares insights from his meticulous research process, recounting how he retraced the 32-day journey from Fort Lane to the newly established Grand Ronde Reservation, uncovering the camp locations along the route.
Nolan also explains the historic photographic technique he used to document these sites, offering a deeper understanding of why he chose this vintage process. As he presents his striking photographs, he reads aloud the journal entries of the Indian Agent who oversaw the 1856 removal, providing a poignant connection to the past.
