Camp |
Named after Lt. Henry Adair, Camp Adair was build in 1942 and torn down in 1947. In 1944, it was the second-largest "city" in Oregon, with around 50,000 soldiers. It was located between U.S. 99W and Independence Highway. Four divisions trained at "Swamp Adair"—the 96th Infantry, 104th Infantry, 70th Infantry, and the 91st Infantry. All later served in combat. In addition, German and Italian prisoners of war were interned at Adair. The museum displays a wide variety of artifacts, including uniforms, medals, patches, war souvenirs, Army furnishings, combat gear, wartime posters, newspaper articles, and photos. |
